I think that this is the case here because it is a lot easier to get vanilla ice cream than it is to get ice cream. Vanilla is a very American flavor, and that’s reflected in the fact that vanilla ice cream is much, much more common than ice cream. I think that the fact that it takes so much effort to get ice cream is in part why this is so common in America.
